Firstly a very big thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
please see below details of my trip and why our money is needed so much.
Over the last couple years or more one of my goals has been to work for a few weeks in a childrens orphanage in Kenya, I have always discussed this with close friends and family and the reasons to way I want to do this( I wont bore you with them all), But if the truth be known I have always been a little apprehensive about how I would deal with the sadness of seeing so many children live there lifes without constant love, and in some cases living in conditions that would be well under our own expectations.
As most of you are aware I have had to deal with the unexpected heartbreak of my first daughter being born with a tumour witch after only 5 hours of her birth, burst causing her to have 3 cardiac arrests and as a result has CP. 5 years on I have dealt, and tried to come to terms with my own worries making me stronger (I hope?) to take this sort of experience on.
I feel now that I am ready to give a little back to those who would truly benefit from a few extra hours of fun, laughs and love.
So on the 1st of June 09, I fly to Kenya!! I will be flying into Nairobi where I will be staying with a host family and working in an orphanage in a village close to this location.
Over the last month I have started to think about games, songs and activities that I can entertain the children with after school and I have started to learn the basics of there language, however my first two days in Kenya will be in a class room environment where I will be prepped on what to expect on my first day at the orphanage, Safety tips, local knowledge, and language.
As I am sure you are aware Kenya has a lot of orphans who have been affected by the AIDS virus as well as poverty. There is a real need to help kids who have lost their parents through the epidemic.
As a volunteer in the orphanage project, I will help tutor the children in the orphanage, I will also help kids to stay clean by helping them in brushing teeth, shower, and personal hygiene. During the evening, organize games/sports, drawing, singing, dancing, and other creative education and extra curricular activities, as well as farm work and cleaning.
I am sure that I will get more out of this experience than I could possibly give and I do understand that in 2 weeks I wont change any of there lives forever but I would hope that I can make some kind of a difference to there day to day routine and inject as much fun in and out of there school day as possible.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Kenyan Orphan Project gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Any money that you donate really would make a world of difference , Please give what you can ,your money will go towards, toys, games, sports. health care, food and for the running of the orpahanage etc, i am funding my trip myself and all money taken will go torwards the above.
many thanks
james Lyall
