Story

Why am I doing what I'm doing?

After a brave 9-month battle with pancreatic cancer, my Dad passed away on Wednesday 9th May 2012. He was a best friend, an inspiration and words can't express just how much he will be missed. I've witnessed first-hand the devestating effects that cancer can have, and I truly hope that a time will come when other families do not have to go through the same experience.

With this in mind, I aim to raise as much money through donations as I possibly can for The Christie. Over the past few months, this charity have played a massive role in our lives, offering emotional and medical support to my Dad as well as 40,000 other patients each year. They've made a tough few months just that little bit easier, and allowed me to spend a valuable extra few months with my father. That in itself is invaluable.

40 years ago the long-term survival rate for pancreatic cancer was 3%. Today, it remains 3%. Through the research and therapy at The Christie there remains a chance that figure may increase over time. Through your donations that might just be possible.

What exactly am I doing?

In 2010 I ran the Dublin Marathon and in 2011 I ran Edinburgh, but in 2012 I'm cranking it up a bit. I'll be running 26 events in 2012 (a marathon of events), ranging from 10k races to 40 mile ultramarathons. I'll be racing horses and trains, taking part in a French 'wine marathon' and getting lost up mountains. This page will be open for donations throughout the year. The money you donate has a massive impact on a charity close to my heart, for reasons detailed above, so every penny you donate is appreciated massively and I will personally high-five every single person who donates and happens to be in high-five range. Guaranteed.
