Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the leading charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Hello and welcome to my Peru Trek '08!

A big 'aloha' to everyone who knows me or who would like to pledge their support.

I'll be trekking in the Lares region of Peru between 12th-21st September 2008 and I'm looking for your backing and support, financially and mentally. I will be doing this for The Stroke Association and plan on raising at least £2,750. I would really love to break the £3,000 barrier with your help.

This is a lofty sum, but I'm sure with the help of my friends, family co-workers, strangers, randoms and anyone else who loves that 'good feeling' you can only get from being parted with your hard earned money, I know we can make it. How’s about instead of buying something for yourself this week, pledge a donation to me and The Stroke Association?

Contrary to what my friends believe, this is not a holiday! He he! Obviously there will be enjoyment and a feeling of great accomplishment and achievement on my part on completing this trek. But after looking at the itinerary and plan of action (yikes!) this will be really hard work. We will be trekking up to 8-9 hours each day over mountains and at great altitudes.

Now for the science bit, pay attention... Every year, an estimated 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke. Most people affected are over 65, but anyone can have a stroke, including children and even babies.

A stroke is the third most common cause of death in the UK. It is also a leading cause of severe adult disability. More than 250,000 people live with disabilities caused by stroke.

It could happen to you, or someone you care for. If it does, you'll want to know as much as you can about strokes. For more information please visit stroke.org.uk

Thanks in advance for your help and support.
