Story

Hey Folks,  23 May 2008

I DID IT! BIG IT UP FOR THE OLD MAN!

START OF STATS!! 4rs 16 mins (81 miles). Ave speed 18.6 mph. Top speed 44.8 mph (now THAT was scarry! 3 miles down hill!).  431st out of total 1700 entrants & finally 184th out of 603 (my age group 40-49). END OF STATS!!

Been almost a week now since I did the race and I've STILL not had time to blow my own trumpet so here goes!

I was however pipped to the post by 1/100th of a second by my brother but he does have a few years on me so not bad for an old timer! Cramped up 3 miles from the end for 30 secs or so but apart from that never got off my bike once and head down did the job in 4hrs 16 mins, WAY surpassing what I thought I had in me! I was allowing up to 6 hours. The competitive spirit in me took over I guess and got the better of me! Great, great fun and I would recommend to anyone to do it! I think I am (almost) a bike nerd! We all finished as well and no injuries so extra good! Talc placed in all the right places did the trick! Thanks Dan for that VERY useful information! Long distance cyclists take note!

Now I am a little short of my target. I would be great if anyone else could give a wee bit still (not please from those that have already) to get me to my target!

I would have done this race for nothing it was so much fun but that would have been a waste and as I had the chance to make a difference then it's doubley good!

Yours aye,

Jamie (Roberts, Lawhill)
