Update - 5th June 2011

On the evening of Saturday 4th June Jamie and his friends and family succesfully completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge, a walk the current (June) issue of Country Walking magazine rates as 'a challenging walk...they don't come much tougher, with long distance, steep climbs and tricky bogs'.

All the walkers, but in particular the children, (youngest 10, oldest 12) should be rightly proud of themselves! We've added a few new photos to this page and in the next few days we'll put up a link to a compilation of short video commentaries Jamie did during the walk.

Thanks again to those of you who have supported our request for sponsorship. For those that haven't yet, can we take this final opportunity to ask for your support, it means a lot to the children who worked so hard for this challenge and of course to Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

When I was six, I was diagnosed as having leukaemia. That was in April 2005. I underwent medical treatment to cure the cancer from then until September 2008.

Now that I have finished my treatment, in appreciation of the work being done by the medical staff at Alder Hey and Leighton Hospitals and to benefit future leukaemia sufferers, me and my supporters are planning to raise funds by attempting the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. This is a 25 mile walk to be completed in 12 hours, climbing Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, a total climb of 5200 feet. I'm being joined by my friends and relatives.

Leukaemia is the most common form of cancer in children. It is a blood cancer that affects the white blood cells, a vital part of our immune system that fights infection.

Around 450 children are diagnosed with leukaemia in the UK every year. Leukaemia tends to develop in children between the ages of two and four. But children of any age can develop this blood cancer.

Most children with leukaemia are diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). I was diagnosed with ALL, the treatment of which can include chemotherapy, steroids, radiotherapy, and other intensive treatments. Treatments are being developed all the time and some have been changed even since I had to have them, so that more children survive.

All the research has to be funded and we want to help with this.
