Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
My mother, Sylvia, died of cancer last year in the LOROS Hospice. During the drives from Hyde to visit her, I got to thinking how interesting the countryside I was passing through looked. I knew some of it because I walk in the Peak District regularly. However, the idea of walking through it wouldn't go away. So now I am planning to walk from Leicester, where I was born and brought up, to Hyde where I now live. It is about 100 miles with over 10,000 ft of ascent (the Peak District is rather hilly!!). I've never done a long backpacking trip before - always had the luggage carried for me but not this time!!
I started from the Park Hill Drive entrance to the Leicestershire County Cricket Ground (Mum was Archivist for the County for many years and also served on the Committee before the Board was formed) around noon on 13 June. I passed through, amongst other places, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Etwell, Ashbourne, Hartington, Buxton and Hayfield before visiting Werneth Low on the final leg to Hyde. We only got really wet on the last Saturday though we did have our waterproofs on for most of Wednesday too.
Your support for my efforts will be really appreciated by the staff at the Hospice - although Mum died in Leicester, I feel that some of my Manchester based friends will feel happier donating to a more local charity - all hospices cost a lot to run via voluntary contributions. So even if you can only afford a small amount, please do donate.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Tameside And Glossop Hospice Limited gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
