Why all this madness?
ME is a dreadful illness that can strike anyone. My Mum is living proof of this. When she was diagnosed with ME she had just returned from a trip to India. She had been active all her life having worked full time and raised 2 children and it floored her. But because my Mum is a fighter (and because she was lucky) she managed very slowly and gradually to work her way back to better health. Managing to do the coast to coast walk and the Inca Trail.
Recently her illness has reared its ugly head again, but Mum is fighting again, trying to gradually build up her walking - starting with up the road and back, she is now up to 2 miles. She and I are going to do a 5 mile moonlit walk together in June, for which my Mum is I'm sure already busy raising sponsor money!
This was a major guilt trip for me. In the last year I've started running and I've done a couple of half-marathons and a marathon. But I've been too lazy and disorganised to raise a penny. I've also done a couple of triathlons and again, not a penny. I now feel as if I've left it too late to ask anyone to sponsor me for a run or a triathlon - I've done them before, where's the challenge? Hence the plan!
