Story
I am a self confessed, drive my car into the supermarket, type of person. Never wanting to walk any further than absolutely necessary. However, fate has recently dealt me an unusual card. A few weeks ago I trapped a nerve in one of the facet joints in my spine, which left me somewhat debilatated for a time. During my spell of inactivity I spent a lot of time on the Internet. Having recently reconnected with some old friends via Facebook I was made aware of a young lady called Niamh and, subsequently, a little girl called Amelia-Mae Davies (Millie). Both have been affected by Neuroblastoma, a dreadfully aggressive childhood cancer. Sadly Niamh has passed away but Millie still has a chance. Their stories have inspired me to get off my spreading bum and try to raise money to help Millie receive Immunotherapy treatment in America.
This immunotherapy treatment will help stimulate Millie’s immune system so that her own body should be able to recognise and attack the neuroblastoma if it was to return. This is the main worry with this deadly disease, where the relapse rates are high.
The treatment it is hoped Millie will receive in the United States is not available in the same format in the UK. The proposed treatment and associated costs of over £250,000 will not be funded by the NHS which is why Millie desperately needs our help.
So, with the assistance and company of 'Sister J' (my trusted trainer, faithful sister and super fit yummy mummy), I will be running my first 5k in July.
