I recently went on holiday to Sabah in Borneo and spent a lot of time in the rainforests there. Unfortunately these are disappearing at an alarming rate due to logging and clearing the areas for palm oil plantations (which we saw miles upon miles of). It is extremely sad that so much rainforest is being lost, and as a consequence many species of animals. We saw orangutans in the wild (a mother and baby) which was an amazing experience. We share 96.4% of our DNA with them and it is uncanny how human their faces and expressions are. One of the places we visited was Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary, which help rescue orangutans kept as pets or those found in palm oil plantations which used to be shot by the plantation owners. They rehabilitate them and gradually introduce them back to the wild.
