ING New York City Marathon 2009 · 1 November 2009 ·

CAMFED supports millions of vulnerable girls from rural communities across Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe to attend school and to create the future they imagine - for themselves, for their communities, and for Africa.

Story

On November 1st I will not only try to run a sub 3 hour marathon in NYC I will above all be very proud to be able to run for something which makes the 26m and 200 feet  (and everybody running faster than me) secondary. And while I will try to give my very best I do mean this literally. Supporting the education of girls in the developing world has not only proved to be highly effective way of promoting social and economic progress. The United Nations and other leading development institutions now believe that young women can play the single most important role in the struggle against poverty and political oppression. An organization which has done groundbreaking work to unlock the potential of girls by supporting their education in rural Africa  and enables us to support this is Camfed. While as an economist I got convinced about Camfeds approach as a runner I can only express my admiration for the stories of the young women and their will to endure against all odds. If you also believe in their potential and the liberating- and multiplying force of education you can join me in investing in the school education of young women in rural Africa on November 1st. Thank you! Jan
