About our charity : RNLI - Royal National Lifeboat Institution RNLI - Royal National Lifeboat Institution
The RNLI saves lives at sea. RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the coasts of the UK and the Republic of Ireland. RNLI lifeguards provide a seasonal lifeguard service on selected beaches. An average of 22 people are rescued every day from the water, in situations which are often difficult and sometimes dangerous. The RNLI is independent from Government, relying on donations for its income, so can only continue thanks to people like you. The RNLI is a charity, registered in England, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland.

Our personal message:

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

My name is Jannina Henderson. It has long been my ambition to walk around the coast of Britain for charity.

So, starting on 1st January, 2006, at the age of 55 and accompanied by my dogs, I will set off from the clock tower at Lyme Regis on the south coast to walk the entire coastline of mainland Britain, a distance of approximately 4,500 miles. I estimate that this will take me between 10 and 11 months. My aim is to walk an average of 16 miles a day, planning rest days where appropriate.

The chosen RNLI beneficiary from this walk will be the Lizard Lifeboat station in Cornwall. The volunteer crews that have served on its boats have saved 1,100 lives during its 146 year history. They are just beginning a major fund-raising effort for a new replacement lifeboat. The current 'Tyne' class boat is now 18 years old and no longer state of the art. It will be succeeded by a 'Tamar' class boat, which will be able to get to vessels in trouble a great deal faster. As the most southerly lifeboat station on mainland Britain, the crew need the best equipment possible but have little opportunity by way of commercial sponsorship in such a remote location. The monies raised will hopefully be a great help for one of the smallest and remote stations, but one which spends more hours out in deep water than almost any other. Please help me to support these brave volunteers who man the Lizard lifeboat. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: RNLI - Royal National Lifeboat Institution will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please sponsor me now! Many thanks for your support.
