Only just over a month to go now before I set off up Mount Kilimanjaro. It all seemed like a good idea back in the summer????
I am genuinely quite apprehensive about my trip and now and again I can feel a few of those old anxiety moments creeping in.
For some people anxiety and depression is a major part of their lives and having lived for nearly 40years I have seen mental health become a large part of our world.
There are obviously many many reasons why this is, and there has been numerous break throughs in medication to support this. However when I met Charlie (the founder of climb your mountain) he explained how he had used the focus of exercise and companionship to overcome his own personal issues.
I was truely inspired, not only by his story and his 'recovery' but also by the way he welcomed the challenges that life can bring and he has done something about it. He now runs the New, exciting and Innovative charity that is Climb Your Mountain.
By using simple but clear physical goals he has proved that many levels of mental health can be climbed and conquered.
What I really liked as well was that the money we raise is used in such obvious and visable ways. It really does make me feel like I am making a difference. A great example being that if a number of us reach our sponsorship goal he will be able to keep the extremely succesful and well supported walking and running clubs going for a number of years to come. These clubs form the foundation of his work and give many sufferers the focus they need to start again.
Confidence and motivation are major tools when climbing your own mountain what ever that may be and I am both confident and motivated towards raising as much money as possible for this active charity.
However I can not do it without you, please help me to help other people who through the guidance of Charlie and the Climb Your Mountain team can start to climb their own personal mountain by good old fashioned values, by feeling supported,and motivated, feeling a part of something worth while, in helping themselves they are helping others, and having the focus and desire to make themselves stronger.
