Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

On 24th August i'll be taking part in Ironman Canada (www.ironman.ca). This is a triathlon consisting of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile cycle ride, and finishing with a 26 mile run. I have 17 hours to complete all of this otherwise i'm gently removed from the course! Yes this is an act of lunacy and yes I probably need my head examined but I'm raising money for the SDBTT Isobel Kelley Fund which is a worthwhile cause. For more info on the charity please see below.

Isobel's parents, Kate and Dave Kelley, explain what the fund is about:-

On 27th July 2003 our apparently fit and healthy two year old daughter, Isobel, got out of bed in the morning and couldn’t stand up. On 29th July she was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Three weeks later she died.

During Isobel’s tragic illness we were amazed to find in this country how little funding there was for research into brain tumours. In her memory we have established the SDBTT Isobel Kelley Fund to raise much needed funds for research into the causes, diagnosis and treatment of brain tumours.

‘SDBTT’ is the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust (formerly the SDRT – Samantha Dickson Research Trust) and all money we raise is paid directly to this registered charity (no.1060627) which is the largest single funder of laboratory based brain tumour research in the UK.

We believe that our charity needs special consideration for the following reasons:

      ·         Brain cancer now kills more children than Leukaemia

·        It is a very depressing statistic that a child diagnosed with an inoperable malignant brain tumour has only a 25% chance of surviving five years.

·       More children die from a brain tumour than from Meningitis

·        Brain cancer has also increased in adults.

·        The magnificent public response to childhood leukaemia in the 70’s and 80’s produced significant improvements. In 1960 a child diagnosed with childhood leukaemia had little chance of survival. In 2007 that child now has a 85% chance of survival. We aim to emulate their success.
