Story

Hi,

*** 310 miles!!!  *** (Or 500km (but that sounds even worse!)

Update 27.8 - Ditchling Beacon done.  Could not move when at the top.  Also using a turbo trainer when raining - trashed one rear tyre, even getting the smell of burning rubber - would be great to be able to do the same on the road!

Still very much at the back of the pack on training runs, but at least am making it to the end.  Less than two weeks to go and thinking I need to stock up on Deep Heat.

Update 23.7 - Training now fully underway  - Many thanks to Duncan - Cramming 7 months into 7 weeks.  There is hope!

I am doing the London to Paris bike ride this September, and need your help - It's on a bicycle, not motorbike.

Once you have stopped laughing at the thought of me doing this ride to which my beloved Elizabeth has kindly signed me up, please think about the pain I will be suffering in so many ways.

Having not ridden a bike for nearly 20 years I don't remember it being so hard, nor the saddle so small.  Also it appears that having done no exercise since stopping playing rugby a few years ago may nothave been the best preparation.  It would be so much easier if the bike had a motor.

The realisation of the challenge ahead has even meant that I have given up work to put in the time to get me through this alive - if not quickly.  (Yes, really leaving BT!)

So why have I accepted this daft challenge?  Because the cause is worth it, and one that justifies your generous support.

The SVP tackles disadvantage and exclusion in various forms and offers the hand of friendship to anyone who needs it,  It also helps people in very practical ways such as providing holidays for children and families who would otherwise go without, helping out with items of furniture, offering debt counselling to those in difficulty or organising day trips for the elderly and housebound.

Please do give very generously.

Cheers,

Jason.

PS - I have now at least bought a bike!
