April 27th and its all over!!

Hello and thankyou for visiting my fundraising page.

It's the day after and I've taken the day off to rest a couple of pretty tired legs. I'm afraid I didn't achieve my 3:30 target time so those of you on the 50% incentive scheme won't need to make any further donations.

I had a very simple race plan this year which was to stay as close to the 8 minute per mile pace runner for the entire race. The simple plan worked well until about the 10 mile point when he managed to slip ahead while I slowed down at a drinks station then he must have somehow picked up his pace as I gradually lost touch with him.

At the 13 miles I was still just on target at 1 hour 46 but at that point my body started protesting and I had to slow down a bit, by mile 20 the protest was turning into a riot and so I slowed even further. The last 6 miles were a series of jogs interspersed with walks.

I managed to finish in 4:06 which was dissapointing, but none the less I was very pleased to have finished.

More importantly, I'm absolutely delighted to be within a few hundred pounds of my £6,000 target to thanks to the wonderful generosity of friends, family, work colleagues and others. Some special thanks to Gareth and the Bowden Rugby football club who U11's parents were so very generous and got me off to a great start. Also a special thanks to my BMS friends who once again rose to 50% incentive challenge.

Most importantly I have to thank Louise my wife for her unwavering support and encouragement,  helping me carve out time each weekend for the long training runs and for some fantastic 'last week' fundraising which has helped me get so close to my target.

So after all that, Isobel skipped off to school today with my medal for her 'show and tell'....perhaps that says it all.

For anyone who would still like to donate, please do so, the website remains open some time yet so please do help this wonderful charity which has helped so many families such as ours.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Down's Syndrome Association gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

my thanks again to everyone who has encouraged and supported me.
