My story
Avalanches, hypothermia, wolves and bears are just some of the dangers facing Talent Acquisition Leader Jay Dunbar-Newman as he attempts an unassisted 130-mile trek across the Arctic. Jay is hoping to rein in £3,000 for charity as he takes part in The Arctic Marathon Trek 2012 facing sub-zero temperatures. He will embark on the grueling 26 miles a day trek next month, (10/2/12) covering 130 miles, in support of children’s charity War Child, a charity for children whose lives have been torn apart by war. Jay who was a member of the British Army, serving with The Household Division, 5 Airborne Brigade & 3 Commando Brigade, so is no stranger to these conditions. “While in the army I went on 2 tours to the Arctic so the cold weather doesn’t worry me, The most important thing will be trying to maintain my fitness levels. I have a lot of miles to cover each day and it will be a real challenge to keep going faced with such extreme conditions. “It’s going to be a real adventure; I’m looking forward to the challenge” If anyone can achieve this it’s Jay. He is an extremely motivated, inspirational individual who will throw himself into this challenge and I have no doubts he will complete it.” Mark Hamilton, training partner. Jay added: “The thought of raising money for such a worthwhile charity as War Child will keep me going. Every child has the right to an education and to live free from violence. As a father of a six-year old boy who has a very privileged life, it saddens me deeply to know that children of his age are being used as soldiers. “The work War Child is doing is as important as their changing the lives of these vulnerable children who families have been torn apart by war and giving them hope for the future.” “This is such an incredible personal challenge for Jay and one that War Child are extremely happy he is choosing to undertake in aid of the children we work with. As a long time support of the charity Jay understand the need to not only raise vital funds for our work but also help raise awareness of the issues facing children in conflict zones. I’m sure this amazing trek will help us do both. We all wish him the best of luck.” Sara Bowcutt, Deputy Director, Corporate & Donor Fundraising To sponsor Jay and follow his progress visit. Follow @JayArctictrek I would like to take this opportunity to thank the generosity of my sponsors who have made the trip possible. www.alexandermannsolutions.com One man, five days, 130 miles, -34
