My story

As part of my resolutions for 2009 I’ve made it my aim to raise £1,000 for charity this year. My long term aim is to raise money for charity every year, but let’s just start with 2009 for now.

So what’s the plan?

I’ll be raising money this year by swimming the equivalent distance of the English Channel at its shortest point which I’m reliably informed is 21 miles. I say the equivalent distance as I won’t actually be swimming the channel and I won’t be doing it in a single hit! That would just be crazy talk.

You never know though, I might choose to do the last few metres in the Channel itself!

My chosen charity

This year’s charity is the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation. They were established in 1967 as an international body linking the activities of national MS societies around the world and their vision is of a world without MS, which sits pretty well with me.

World MS Day, 27th May 2009

Now, my original plan was to swim 21 miles throughout the whole of 2009 … but then I discovered that it’s World MS Day in May which seemed like a pretty good way of linking my efforts to this worthwhile cause. So with that said …

I will swim 21 miles between now and 27th May 09 with the aim of raising £1,000 for the MS International Federation.
