We have funded over 100 research projects tackling many forms of cancer. In 2012 we opened a dedicated clinical trials centre at Leicester Royal Infirmary to offer patients access to new medicines and therapies. We also fund two nurses who add to the care and support trials patients receive.

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. As several close friends have recently been affected by cancer, I thought I would try and raise some money for the Leicestershire based charity, Hope Against Cancer. With everyone feeling the pinch at the moment, the challenge had to be good value for money for any potential sponsor! Therefore in return for your sponsorship, I will undertake a bargain bucket of a 3 for 1 as follows:

5 April 2009: Mansfield Triathlon: 400m pool swim / 14.5k bike / 5k run

Completed in 1:06:22

Swim: 08:36

T1: 02:22

Bike: 29:45

T2: 01:15

Run: 24:20

My first attempt at triathlon, which was strangely enjoyable. Pleased the first event was in a pool. Transitions were dreadful, wasting 2 minutes putting socks on!

2 May 2009: Century Cycle Challenge - Nevill Holt (Leics) to Burnham Deepdale on the Norfolk Coast -104 miles

Completed in circa 6hrs 45 mins riding time! As part of a team of 11 riders, we set off from Nevill Holt, at 8.30am, towards Uppingham, then Oakham, Witham, Spalding, Kings Lynn (some weird people live there....), Sandringham, and then finally, towards the sea at Burnham Deepdale to the finish at 4pm. A party for the riders followed on a wonderful sunny evening. In total the 122 riders raised a grand total of £66,280, of which your donations formed part thereof!

As for the ride, the first 40m were fine, next 20 were awful as my body ran out of fuel in the sun. Some energy gels got me to lunch for some carbs and some salt, and thereafter I developed a second wind that took me strongly to the finish.

28 June 2009: Northampton Triathlon, Grendon Lakes

Completed in 1:37:30

Swim: 17:31

T1: 02:00

Bike: 50:10

T2: 01:13

Run: 26:34

My first outing in a open water swim event, which also happened to be the British Army Triathlon championship. The swim and bike went quite well, but by the time I began the run I was knackered, as I watched the Para's come flying past! Transitions were hugely improved, particularly given taking off a wetsuit formed part of this race.
