UPDATED, 12th April

I did it!  I finished in 5:15:07 and 28621nd place.  It was very hot and I'll definitely not be doing anything like it again, but I'm just very happy to have finished and raised such an amazing total for Weston Park.  I never dreamed I'd run a marathon or manage to raise anywhere near this much.  Half way round, I wasn't sure if I could do it but knowing that you'd all sponsored me kept me going until the next water station.  There's a few photos on here and I'll link to the official ones when they get put up on Thursday.  Thank you all so much.

As many of you know, in February 2010, my Mum was diagnosed with cancer.  She has been treated at the Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield.  Weston Park is one of 3 dedicated cancer hospitals in the country, providing treatment for patients in Yorkshire and specialised care for patients from the rest of the UK and abroad.  The Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity support the work of the hospital and helped build and run the research centre where Mum was treated.

I wanted to do something to help the charity, so I decided to run a marathon.  Yes, I know that it was a crazy idea, I just thought of the biggest thing that I could do and went for it.  I didn't consider that I don't particularly enjoy doing sports and that I've never run other than to catch a bus.  On my first training run in June, I managed 0.1 miles on the treadmill before I was out of breathe and had to stop.  I'm getting better, I'm now running 4 times a week and don't turn beetroot after the first couple of minutes.

On 10th April, I'll be in Paris, attempting to finish the 26.2 mile course.  I'm not aiming for a fast time, I'm just aiming to finish and raise money for Weston Park.  All the costs of running and getting to Paris have been paid by me so everything donated will go straight to the charity.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  Thank you for donating, and most importantly, thank you to the fantastic staff and volunteers at Weston Park for all the work they do for those living with cancer and their families.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
