Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Interface Uganda gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
We are two friends, both nearer 70 than 60, who discovered in 2005 that we each harboured an amibition to walk the South West Coast Path (SWCP). We have wonderful husbands, but neither felt able to cope with the steep asecents and descents - however, they gamely chauffeur us to and from our starting points each time we tackle another section.
The SWCP is a 630 mile adventure around the coastline of the south west peninsula, running from Poole in Dorset to Minehead in Somerset. A sophisticated altimeter has shown that when the path is completed, the walker has climbed 115,000 feet - which is just short of walking the height of Everest from sea level four times. We can believe it!!
The path passes along some of the finest scenery anywhere, with enormous variety and contrast between bustling resorts and quiet cove, dramatic rocky headlands and stunning chalky cliffs, steep coastal valleys and gentle stretches at sea level. The flowers are amazing and we catch glimpses of seals and many sea birds. We have yet to see dolphins, sharks or adders - but we remain hopeful!
Our early efforts consisted of day trips but we now walk in 4 day bursts, carrying all we need in our rucksacks and using B and B accommodation en route. We generally cover 45-50 miles each time.
We were urged to seek sponsorship for our efforts by many friends, and since we have learned of Interface Uganda through Maggie Knights, and since Jennifer had lived and worked in Uganda with her husband in the 1970's, she in medicine and he teaching at King's College, Budo, we felt this was the Charity we wanted to support. This has proved an inspiration to us to speed up our efforts. We hope to complete the whole path before the clocks go back at the end of October.
Interface Uganda provides essential surgery and training. Those involved deserve our and your best support.
Many thanks
Jennifer and Diana
