Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!  As most of you are probably already aware by now, I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in June with a group of Accenture colleagues from around the world to raise money for Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO). 

VSO is the largest independent charity in the world and sends skilled volunteers to developing nations to share their professional skills and experience with local people.  VSO works to achieve change for disadvantaged people in six primary areas – education, HIV & AIDS, disability, secure livelihoods, participation and governance and health and social well-being. In 2004, VSO was voted top international development charity in the International Aid and Development category for its work in promoting innovative approaches to globalizing volunteering. My group ascended the Rongai route, which is considered one of the “easiest” of all the walking routes up Kilimanjaro  However, “easiest” should be taken lightly – as Kilimanjaro is the highest freestanding mountain in the world and the highest point on the African Continent at 19,340 feet. The trek was over a 7-day period through 5 different eco-systems culminating in a final 10 hour climb through the night! 

In addition to the climb, my group also had the opportunity to visit a VSO supported program in Tanzania – which allowed me to see firsthand how VSO programs benefit the area.
