Story

For those of you that don't know me and have logged on after seeing me train or are involved with Snowdrop or have picked up one of my cards.... thank you. A little bit about my background and why I am doing this...

At the beginning of this year I started working as a volunteer family support member for the Snowdrop Trust, a local charitiy based in Chichester, which helps and supports childen in their homes who have life threatening or terminal illness. I have been so impressed by the charities work and the impact they have on these families that I wanted to help them further by raising much needed funds so the good work can continue.

I thrive on challenging myself, I needed to think of a good one.... the light bulb moment came last summer whilst out playing in the river on new toy - the kayak! I know...." I'll kayak the English Channel from England to France!"Having not been to sea in the kayak at this stage the majority of friends and family felt it was (is!!) a mad brain idea. I can see where they are coming from but it is the big challenge that I hope people will support!

After some research and planning, I started training towards this challenge in April 2010. At the moment I am training five times a week with a minimum of one session at sea. I plan to make my voyage in September 2010. This is a massive challenge to take on, physically for upper body strength and endurance, the journey could take 7-8 hours depending on weather and accounting for tides. For safety reasons and for help crossing the shipping lanes I need to have a support boat with me for trip.

When I think of the challenge ahead I am starting to feel nervous, fingers crossed the hours of hard work that I am putting into my training and nutrition will pay off and that my kayak and I will arrive in one piece in the sunny shores of France. Please support me in this challenge by pledging what you can to this very worthwhile cause, this is what will be driving me forward over the next few months and the event itself when pain sets in!
