Amnesty International UK is movement of ordinary people standing up for humanity and human rights. Some of our campaigns includes refugees, climate change, children's rights, women's rights, and conflict-affected countries. When we unite even the smallest acts of humanity make a difference.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. We did it! Arrived in John o Groats on Friday 8th June at 7pm after 66 miles into head wind and driving rain. Total 1,015 miles in 15 days, avge 70 miles a day, max 93 miles, min 42 miles. Had a wonderful time and thoroughly recommend it as a way to see Britain. Did have good weather through scotland - it was great to cycle through Glen Coe in sunshine and past Ben Nevis which was clear on the top!

Gudrun and I are leaving Land's End on 25th May and hope to arrive in John o'Groats on 8th June! We have all our accomodation booked in YHAs and B&Bs, and hope to cycle on mainly B roads - the distance is over 1,000 miles. We are funding and organising the trip by ourselves and any money donated will all go direct to Amnesty.

I am a long term supporter of Amnesty and particularly want to raise money for their campaign against the Arms Trade, and their campaign on Poverty and Human Rights. Read more on their website.

Training started two weeks ago and highlighted how much there is to do. We plan our first 70 mile ride this sunday (Aber to Rhayader and back) and hope it goes well, as it will be close to our average daily mileage. (Currently I'm used to my daily commute of 15 miles)

22/4/12 Borth-Talybont-Nant y Moch-Devil's Bridge-Tregaron-Borth. Approx 65 miles.

29/4/12 Very windy and rainy but had to go out - it might be like this for 1000 miles! So need to experience it. Spend 7 hours and clock 71 miles. It's a good test of my waterproof clothing - generally I stay dry but my gloves are not waterproof and my feet get cold. On the way up to Nant yr Arian it's very gusty and I get blown to a standstill 3 times so I stay low for the rest of the day and go out to Aberdovey.
