Story
As a non-runner the training has been a challenge in itself. When I signed up I never realised how many hours I would need to dedicate to running and how many miles I would have to run before even landing in New York!
With only a few days left until my first/last marathon I am spending my time in trainers and lycra leggings!
You will be wondering what drove me to such things...
I will be raising money for The Scottish Motor Neurone Disease Association. Motor Neurone Disease attacks the nerve cells that send messages from the brain to the muscles destroying the ability to walk, talk, dress or swallow. Those with MND live their lives totally dependant on others for their most basic needs.
It's quite a small unknown charity in comparison to many that will be represented on the day, but one that is close to mine and my family's heart. My stepdad Alistair Weir faced this disease with great courage and a wicked sense of humour, but sadly passed away two years ago.
I had told him that one day I would do a marathon to raise funds for SMNDA to which he laughed considering the farthest distance I would travel would be to the bar and back!
Well this one's for you Ali!!!!
SMNDA's main source of income is through fundraising and your money will make a great difference in helping the organisation to support those living with the disease to which there is currently no cure. All funds raised will go straight to the charity as the trip is entirely self funded and if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no extra cost to you.
Please hit the SPONSOR button at the bottom of the page and push me towards that finish line!!!
Thank you for your support
