Thank you for visiting my fundraising page and for supporting me in raising funds for Action in rural Sussex (AirS) and the Wivelsfield School PTA new school fund.
I am splitting all the money I raise in half for the two charities, although for simplicity the administration is being done through AirS. The PTA will use the money to help equip the new school and AirS will target the sponsorship on its work with rural children and families.
I flew to Bordeaux with the bike packaged up in a large cardboard box to protect it from the tender mercies of the Gatwick and Bordeaux baggage handling system. The first job was to re-assemble it outside the aiport.
Setting off at lunchtime on 27th I managed to cover around 350 miles in the first four days travelling up the banks of the Gironde, through the Vendee and across the Loire just east of Nantes. After that the weather gradually deteriorated and the going became more hilly. The final 150 miles took a further three days with a rest stop just outside Bayeux before the final leg to the port at Caen. The final reckoning was 512 miles from Bordeaux to the port.
I have recently discovered this site and found it is a brilliant way of arranging sponsorship, particularly since it takes all the pain away from the charities when reclaiming tax on your donations. If you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks again for sponsoring me, you can follow how the total is going on this site.
Jeremy
