Story
I ran the London Marathon to raise money for the fantastic charity, the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK. I ran in memory of my darling wife Georgina who died of breast cancer on 30th September 2007, aged just 41. As many of you will know, Georgie was a beautiful, brave person who never once let her spirits drop during her 5 year battle with the disease.
Thank you so much for your incredible generosity and support!
I managed to both start and finish the marathon on the same day, crossing the finishing line 4 hours and 24 minutes after starting. I was a mere 17,968 places behind the winner. My team-mate Dennis Embleton provided great encouragement and pacing on our interesting tour of the East End (anyone heard of Mudshute, on the Isle of Dogs?). Highlights included the extraordinary crowd participation which on occasions pushed the barriers of over-familiarity ('Oi, Jerry, you look like s**t!') and dodging lobbed jelly babies. Yes, Tom, I was overtaken by a Womble!
At mile 23 the course passed the front door of St James Garlickhythe, where Georgie and I were married 17 years ago almost to the day.
Thank you so much to those that came up to support me - I am so sorry I didn't spot all of you, but I assure you you didn't miss much. My progress was less than edifying!
Once again, thank you so much for your fantastic generosity - the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK is a wonderful charity which will put your funds to great use.
