Story
Well, its over now. I made it to the finish motivated by all the the support for my chosen charity. Thank you all sponsors! It was quite a day. Huge crowds, sun, rain, hail, wind it seemed like all my training runs in one! Although I won a finisher's medal the big winners are my chosen charity the Spinal Injuries Association. This year they are the official Flora London Marathon charity. It is their big chance to raise substantial funds to help victims of spinal injuries. Unlike most charities who raise money via the marathon to cover their admin expenses, SIA have pledged to give half their receipts to grass roots organizations for sports activities for victims of spinal injuries. Many of us know of people who suffer from these afflictions. Accidents (in a car, at work or playing sport) are the principal causes. The SIA helps people normalize their lives. They advise victims and their carers on how to manage in their afflicted states. Sport is an important way for them to carry on active lives and express themselves physically. Did you know, also, there is groundbreaking work going on in finding solutions to spinal injury and that there is hope that considerable progress will be made in their treatment? The SIA is fully behind the research going on and lobbies for progress. I have met many of the staff at the charity and I know what good work they do. Many of them are, of course, themselves spinal injury sufferers. Please help me to make this worthwhile by being as generous as you can to help those who suffer from paralysis. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Spinal Injuries Association will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Many thanks for your support. Let's hope it is not as hot as last year!
