Mercy Corps - Mongol Derby · 22 August 2009 ·

We want to ensure that every patient at Addenbrooke's and the Rosie hospitals experiences the highest quality of care available. We raise funds for cutting edge technology, additional specialist staff and extra comforts for patients, over and above what is possible with NHS funding alone.

Story

I have been awarded a place as one of 25 riders to compete in the inaugural longest, hardest and most dangerous horse race in the world – The Mongol Derby. This race, the first of its kind, saw applicants worldwide apply to sacrifice the skin of their thighs for a good cause and one hell of an adventure. I am honoured and humbled to be taking part in such an epic event that will no doubt be one of my life’s defining moments. I invite you to join me and support the charity Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust (ACT).

Why ACT?

My family and I owe a huge debt to Addenbrookes Hospital and all their wonderful staff for innumerable occasion on which they have helped my family and especially my farther, who they have seen safely through a liver transplant, bowel and skin cancer scares. And without who’s staffs remarkable professionalism, dedication and ever optimistic attitude of the staff he might not be with us today. It is for this reason that I hope to be able to raise as much money as possible for this world class establishment.

What is the Mongol Derby?

In August, Genghis Khan’s legendary messenger route will be recreated to see 25 would be Mongols astride semi wild Mongolian horses hammer along a 1000km route in the remote steppes of Mongolia. We will be changing horse every 40km and be responsible for finding our own food, water and accommodation (Mostly freezing our asses off in the rather cool nights!).
