Story

BRMB Walkathon 2010

The BRMB Walkathon stemmed from the idea of starting a local community event aimed at raising money for local charities that were close to the hearts of people in Birmingham and the West Midlands.

In order to get the maximum amount of people to be involved in an event, it was of utmost importance to look for something that everybody was able to do. The idea was simple – WALK.

Hence the Walkathon was born. A 26 mile stroll around the Birmingham outer circle bus route. Start points were set up every 3 to 4 miles, so no one had to travel far from home to join in.

Over time the walk has varied from the initial number 11 bus route, but it has always captured the imagination of the people of the West Midlands. Since the first Walkathon in 1983, the total amount of money raised for local charities has exceeded £4 million.

Help for Heroes

Each year, Jerroms nominates a charity to support and this year it is Help for Heroes which supports our wounded service men and women.

Given how much these Heroes do for us, my little challenge is distinctly insignificant in comparison.

Your support will help them build recovery centres for the wounded to recuperate following surgery.
