British 10K London Run 2012 · 8 July 2012 ·

Migraine is the most common and disabling neurological disorder in the UK, which affects 1 in 7 people. The Migraine Trust is the only research and support charity for people affected by migraine in the UK. We fund and promote research, provide support and information, and campaign for change.

Story

<p>&nbsp;</p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px; font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Welcome to our Just Giving page! </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px; font-family: arial; font-size: small;">&nbsp;</p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px; font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">In July this year, Dave and I will be running the British 10k to raise funds for The Migraine Trust, a charity that seeks to empower, inform and support those affected by Migraine disorders.&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Times;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px; font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><br></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px; font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">As many of you know, I suffer from Migraine myself, so it's a cause close to my heart. Severe Migraine attacks are classified by the World Health Organisation as among the top 20 most disabling illnesses, comparable to dementia, quadriplegia and active psychosis. Although there are an estimated 190,000 Migraine attacks every day, it is the least publicly funded of all neurological illnesses relative to it's economic impact. You can read more here:&nbsp;</span><a style="font-family: Arial;" href="http://www.migrainetrust.org/key-statistics">http://www.migrainetrust.org/key-statistics</a><span style="font-family: Arial;">).&nbsp;</span><span style="font-family: Arial;">As yet, there is no known cure for Migraine.&nbsp;</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px; font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><br></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px; font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">For people who don't suffer Migraine, or who only get the odd headache, I'm sure the above statistics must be hard to believe. But the impact that Migraine can have on your quality of life can be overwhelming. Over half (54%) of Migraine sufferers experience one or more attacks per month, and 13% claim one or more attacks per week. My own attacks last anything from 3-5 days, sometimes longer, and I can have as many as three attacks a month. Over the years I have learned to tell when they are coming, and can manage them with daily medication and lifestyle changes, so that they don't stop me going about my day to day activities. But every so often, when the pain is&nbsp;excruciating and the side effects (vomiting, aversion to light and smell, etc) are intense, it's impossible to even get out of bed.&nbsp;</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px; font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><br></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px; font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Please sponsor Dave and I to complete this 10k run and help the Migraine Trust continue with the excellent work they do. And i</span><span style="font-family: Arial;">f you know someone who has the same problem, they are not alone! Point them in the direction of these incredibly helpful bodies:&nbsp;</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px; font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px; font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><a href="http://www.migrainetrust.org/">http://www.migrainetrust.org/</a></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px; font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><a href="http://www.migraineclinic.org.uk/">http://www.migraineclinic.org.uk/</a></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px; font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><br></span></p> <div style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;">Thank you so much for your donation,&nbsp;</div> <div style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"></div> <div style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;">Jess and Dave&nbsp;</div> <p>&nbsp;</p>
