Story

I have -crazily according to some- signed up to trek to Everest Base Camp in Nepal this April with a group of 20 people. The trek is a 12 day challenge with altitudes up to 5500 m, between 5 and 10 hours of hiking each day and fairly rough conditions. I have been dreaming of trekking in Nepal for a long time. This will be a once in a lifetime experience in such a breathtakingly wonderful country with awe inspiring people.

However, Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world, and as excited as I am to start this incredible adventure, I know it will also be a difficult eye opener on the realities of this world. This is why I have decided to raise funds for The Nepal Trust. I am hoping to give something back to this amazing country that will give so much to me.

The Nepal Trust inspired me as they are dedicated to supporting the Nepalese people by working with them on sustainable community development projects in the areas of health, education, renewable energy, eco-tourism and heritage preservation. They emphasise local participation and recognise the local people as the ultimate custodians of their communities. To give you an idea here are examples of what your donations could provide:

£5 : 2x energy saving light bulbs, to supply light for treating patients in a health post.

£10 : A yak to carry medical supplies to health posts.

£20 : Enough medical supplies for a health post to treat a community of 500 people for 1 week.

£35 : A fully equipped tool box to enable a micro-hydro plant supervisor to maintain the provision of electricity and flour grinding facilities to their village.

I never raised money for charity before, but I figured this was the perfect opportunity to try and do something that matters. I am very aware times are difficult for everyone, and several charity sponsorships are around at the moment, but if you could spare even a few pounds for this cause it would mean a lot to me...and make all the blisters worthwhile :-)

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, and a massive thank you in advance to all contributors.

Jess
