Thank you for visiting our fundraising page!
Jess and Steve will be running 10 K this June and will be hoping to finish in 1 h (Steve boy) and 1 h 15 (agh, Jess). Nothing like working up a bit of a sweat in June! For those of you interested, it's for the Barts and The London Charity to help fund research into how stem cells from your bone marrow may one day be able to help save lives from heart attacks or disease.
For those of you reallly interested, have a read up:

Many thanks for your support. Feel free to come join the madness on the 15th June :D
"Built for speed...."
17th May... Less than a month to go and Jess has finally managed to run the whole darn thing in one go! Minimal collapsing occurred upon completion and she now has a chance of not being too embarrassingly upstaged by Steve's speedy antics. Woohooo! Now.. to do it again... 22nd May... Jess discovers an exciting excuse to hit the pubs... it's all for training purposes you see... http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/news/article.asp?UAN=3390 26th May... Due to some recent non-running sporting activities that went awry (ie, falling of horses and discovering the mistake of non-padded bike saddles), Steve and Jess have now collected a variety of interesting injuries... under 3 weeks to go and now beginning to worry... 30th May... Okies, the acquirement of a knee support may not be looking the most fashionable but is hopefully going to aid in the not-snapping-in-bits method that Jess is quite keen to follow... The plan is to see if I can run the full 10K again tomorrow,,,, If I can do it twice, I may have a chance on the day... Steve is happily trotting away the miles and is now on a mission to get those precious seconds down... 31st May... Jess did it again! Despite being scared to death by a little old lady 5 minutes in, my heart managed to not explode and I puffed my way round... just! Steve can now be seen sporting a colourful array of sportwear, a collection that seems to be growing on a daily basis...Not long til the lycra methinks... Next challenge: to determine how long toast takes to digest and attempt to run at lunchtime. 2 weeks to go and huge thanks to you all for the great support so far!!! 6th June... Disaster strikes as Jess attempts and fails to run the whole distance at 5pm in the sun... Plagued with stitches and attacked with foot cramps (not had those before), I was in bit of a sorry state. New plan is to eat a spoonful of salt before my next run in the sun. Hoping that this weekend's run will be better... 13th June... TWO DAYS TO GO!!!!! ARRGGGHHH!!! 15th June... Well here it is guys - no backing out now... It looks all nice and sunny godamnit so am desperately wishing for some cloud cover at around 12! Steve has bought a bakery's worth of flapjacks, which we're busily munching through now... Thanks again all - we've doubled our target - absolutely fantastic!!! This page stays active for about 3 months after today so any of you cynics out there who are waiting for proof of our abilities can donate after today...
Here goes!!!!!!!!!!! 15th June... much later.... Well guys we freakin' did it! After getting lost in the Park, having to jog 1/2 mile to the start line and then immediately START the race, things were a bit fraught at the start. Rush of adrenaline and everyone jostling to get going - but then Jess discovered to her utter dismay that her music player had died - rather disastrous. Mighty difficult as always required music to convince me to keep going... still, 3 laps and 10K later, I can proudly say that I managed it all round being acutely aware of every step! Steve ploughed through the crowds from the offset and made the fantastic time of 53 minutes! New personal best! I think that I made it inside 1 h 10, although not entirely sure as first collapsed then jubilant that I managed it, then wondered about what time it was. Places will come up later - have no idea right now but respect to the 'elite' who managed it within 40 minutes. Crazy. Now - for baths and sandwiches and flapjacks... And again a HUGE thank you for all the donations - it's a great sum to have raised! Plus Gift Aid shoots it up to near £400! As said above, if anyone now feels that we've been in pain enough to warrant sponsoring, the page'll stay active for 3 months so go ahead! It's all for charity! :D 17th June... Through the magic of shiny cameras and declaration of race results, it has been deciphered that Steve finished at 12.25.16 (= 52.43 min and number 365/780!) and Jess at 12.37.48 (= 65.18 min and number 685/780) so I was a whole 12 min slower than Steve and quite a few places behind... hmmm... the challenge has been set for the next round! Jess was captured by a man, although I can't see one of Steve as yet? No fear - will keep looking! http://www.pulsephotography.net/event_img.asp?photo_id=150608_0379.jpg§ion=Barts%20and%20London%20NHS%20Victoria%20Park%2010K&Photo_section=Red%20Numbers.
