Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my BTO Big Summer Bird Count 2009 page.

Everyone has surely noticed something is happening with our migrants! Wood Warblers and Pied Flycatchers have undergone declines of 60%. Willow Warblers are close to being red-listed. Knowledge of ecology of the migrants in their wintering grounds is extremely poor and hampers the ability of the BTO and RSPB to conserve migrant species. In order to help fund the BTO's "Out of Africa" research, I am carrying out a 24 hour bird count between 10am on 1st September to 10am 2nd September, with the kind permission of RSPB Frampton Marsh wardens.

Location was picked due to its excellent facilities as well as an ideal spot to count passing migrants - the reason of the count in the first place!

I hope my contribution to this cause, enables funding for the research to find out whats happening in Africa, in order all of us benefit in seeing the migrant species we enjoy - in the future!

Many thanks.
