I am taking part in this year's Great North Run and I am raising funds in aid of THE SIR BOBBY ROBSON FOUNDATION.

I can’t think of a better cause to be running for. It’s so typical of Sir Bobby to be doing so much for others even in his current state of health - he’s always thinking of other people, so I’m thinking of him.

The work that Sir Bobby has done so far for the people of the North East is incredible and hopefully everyone running the Great North Run for him will raise even more money for this important cause.

 The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation has already raised enough money to set up a Cancer Trials Research Centre in Newcastle, which will treat patients from across the region from January 2009.

 The charity is initially focusing on the early detection and treatment of cancer and will also help support clinical trials of promising new treatments to tackle the disease.  It is currently working with regional cancer projects to identify priority need for funding.
