Help Me Summit Mt. Kilimanjaro!

Jina Kwon is raising money for CAMFED

Climb Mt. Kilimanjaro · 28 July 2008

CAMFED supports millions of vulnerable girls from rural communities across Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe to attend school and to create the future they imagine - for themselves, for their communities, and for Africa.

Story

US taxpayers go here: http://www.firstgiving.com/jinakwon

As I climb Mt. Kilimanjaro 31 August - 05 September I would like to raise money for CAMFED, an international aid organization that promotes education for African girls.  The trip itself is entirely self-financed, and 100% of your donations will go directly to CAMFED.  If you are a US taxpayer, you can donate in USD through my Firstgiving page.

Although not a technical climb the last day of the climb, when I summit, will prove to be a difficult challenge with altitude induced vomiting and headaches while drudging along an 6-8 hour exhausting ascent, followed by a 2 hour final leg, all done in the middle of the night.  I need images of your lovely faces and your song suggestions to sing in my head as I toil to the top.

What can your donation do?
£400 provides 2 years of primary, 4 years of secondary education and a business startup grant

£100 provides 4 years of primary education for a girl in Africa

£75 provides a year of secondary education for a girl in Africa

£50 provides business training and a start-up grant for a school leaver

£25 provides a year of primary education for a girl in Africa

What is CAMFED
CAMFED fights poverty and HIV/AIDS in rural Africa by educating girls and investing in their economic independence and leadership once they complete school.

Why CAMFED?
Educating girls yields a higher rate of return than almost any other investment in developing societies.  It directly affects two of the eight UN Millennium Development Goals (achieve universal primary education; and promote gender equality and empower women) and positively affects the other six.  Educating girls reduces rural poverty, improves maternal health and lowers incidences of HIV/AIDS.  Educating girls in Africa is a long term investment in helping rural communities in Africa as well as in helping empower young women.  _____________________________________________

Donating through Justgiving is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts for CAMFED.  If  you are a UK tax payer the UK government add an additional 28% to your donation through Gift Aid.  Justgiving then deducts a processing fee, a credit card transaction fee and VAT.  In the end if one donates £100 CAMFED receives £119.30.

A donation of any amount will help, but please try to give as generously as possible.

Many thanks for supporting CAMFED and my climb!
