BHF - Peru Inca Trail Trek 2014 · 15 May 2014 to 24 May 2014 ·

Far too many of us have felt the pain of losing someone we love. With your donations, we power groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives, bring hope to families, and keep hearts beating across the UK.

Story

Many of you visiting my page will know that I lost my very precious Dad through a massive heart attack in December 1975 at the age of 48.  The pain may have dulled but the memories continue and by doing this challenge , I hope that this is a small contribution to help prevent any such tragedies happening to other families.

I will be trekking with my very special friend Gill, who sadly lost her husband Simon in the same way 5 years ago , again at the age of 49, leaving Gill and her daughter Alex bereft.

The years have past , however, we still hear of tragedies every day when young men in their 40's and 50's(some younger) die - when talking to friends and family of our challenge and the efforts we will be taking to raise the funds, I was told of another heart rending story of a young 40 year old Dad of 3 who died only weeks ago leaving 3 young boys wondering where their Daddy has gone and why  - I so remember that feeling and those questions.

If the money we raise helps to prevent just one family from having to ask these questions and struggle to find the answers then all of the hard work in training for the trek (being half killed by Matt in the gym !)and efforts around all of the fund raising events will be worth it.

Although I am doing this in memory of my Dad, it is also for all those others taken from us too soon; Gill's husband Simon, Graeme's dad Ian, Gill's Dad Keith , Sue's Dad..... and unfortunately many more.

I realise that that the draw on your cash is great in the current climate , therefore, any support you can give us is truly appreciated - whether it be at one of our events or by sending us cash through this site.

Think of me when I am training - encouragement is appreciated and when my lip has dropped ready for an almighty sulk because it's all too flippin' hard , a pat on the back and a gentle word will help .... then pass the tissues !!............... and tell me to just get on with it and stop whinging !!

Between us, Gill and I are hoping to raise £10,000, however, I must stress that we will be paying the flights and accommodation charges ourselves and any contributions will go towards our BHF total.

many thanks for your support and look out for the events from now to May 2014

Heartfelt love and thanks,

Jo xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
