The Oxford Transplant Foundation is an independent charity established to raise funds for the sole benefit of the Oxford Transplant Centre. The Foundation raises funds that are used to enhance the Centre's facilities and to promote research in transplantation. It is devoted to the dissemination of information about the latest medical developments and their implications for improving patient care. The Foundation provides opportunities for stakeholders of the Oxford Transplant Centre -- from patients, doctors, through to carers and scientists -- to work together in continuing to build the Centre's reputation as a world leader in transplantation.

Story

To commemorate the 30 year anniversary of my kidney transplant I have undertaken a 180 mile walk along the Thames Path from London (Thames Barrier) to the source of the river near Kemble in Gloucestershire.

I was accompanied all the way by my wife Karen, and our friends Pete Willis and Geoff Spooner, with other friends and family joining us for sections along the Path.

The walk started at the Thames Barrier on Tuesday June 16th and we completed it in stages over a two week period, camping out at night, and with the help of a boat, skippered by our friend John Wilcox,  to carry our supplies for most of the way.

DAY FIFTEEN:

WE DID IT !

Arrived at the source at 3pm on 30th June 2009 after a hot and humid final 12 miles from Cricklade. The four of us (Karen, Geoff, Pete, and myself) who had walked the full 184 miles found it quite emotional and difficult to believe it was all over.
We were accompanied on this last stretch by friends Bob, Beryl, Bruce, Ann (+ her dog Taco), Mary, Vic, John ( our now redundant boat skipper), Liz, Jan, and Jo ( who provided champagne).

I have set a target of £2500 to be raised for the Oxford Transplant Foundation so please make a donation.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Oxford Transplant Foundation gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Many thanks,
John
