I am trekking to Everest Base Camp in March 2010 to raise money for Woking Hospice. My family and I have had 1st hand connections with the Hospice when my lovely mother Anna, spent some time there last summer before she very sadly died. The help, care and support given not only to my mother, but also to my father, sisters and myself was amazing, the staff who work there really opened our eyes to another area of life we previously had no real knowledge of. It takes around £7,123 per day to cover the elements of care including people staying in the hospice, day care and in the wider community which the hospice serves and somehow, with all that pressure, the atmosphere is still intimate, warm, caring and friendly! To do the trek I will be away for just under 3 weeks, missing my gorgeous son terribly and giving up every hope of my usual creature comforts (namely wine and a hairdryer)! I am completely aware of how tough it is going to be but am determined to give it my best shot! I would be so grateful if you would make a donation, also adding a comment (rude or otherwise) as I will print these off before I start the trek and hopefully they will spur me on when emotions and tiredness get in the way! Many many thanks in advance, Jo

I DID IT!

I made it up that massive hill!  It's been the most amazing couple of weeks, the trek as a whole was absolutely fantastic!  I was with a lovely group of people from all over the country and doing the trek for many different reasons and we saw sights and views that I cannot begin to describe, absolutely stunning!

I payed a price though, and me, Jo Adam, who has never gone 24 hours without a hairwash and blowdry, full make up and clean clothes actually spent a fortnight with hardly a sniff of running water, with shared long-drop loos (often at the end of a very cold, sometimes unlit corridor)!  Me who is never, ever ill suffered rotten headaches, upset tummy, nausea and loss of apetite!  Put that all together after a very long and tiring days walking (often between 6 and 8 hours, sometimes more) and you're getting close to how we lived every day for a fortnight!  I wouldn't have missed a moment of the trip though, it was brilliant!

It's all over now, but I have 400 superb photo's, a new set of pals, wonderful memories and a sense of acheivement beyond my wildest dreams!

Thanks so much, everyone has been so kind about this whole adventure, with donations and also with such lovely comments and e-mails throughout!  As I intended, I printed off my Just Giving page before I went and often read the comments, they really did keep me going and I know how lucky I am to have such wonderful friends!

Many many thanks everyone, you've made my dream and my huge thank-you to The Woking Hospice become a reality!
