Story
On the 17th September 2010, we will be completing a 55-mile bike ride, covering the entirety of the Taff Trail from Brecon to Cardiff Bay in aid of ‘RWANDA RESTORED’.
Rwanda Restored is a local charity, which seeks to counter the tragedies of the 1994 genocide. Rwanda as a nation is severely poverty stricken, with millions of orphans following the genocide and a serious AIDS epidemic. The nation is crying out for restoration and a better future, and Rwanda Restored seeks to partner with local people to enable progression. Some of the ways in which Rwanda Restored does this, is through the advancement of education of young people by building or improving schools and relieving financial hardship by providing money for food, housing, education, clothes and social support for widows and orphans across Rwanda.
The main focus of the charity is on children, to ensure they have decent accommodation either with their family or within boarding schools. We also aim to support the parents of these children, many of whom are widows because of HIV, AIDS and the genocide.
The money we intend to raise will be going towards the charity’s most ambitious project to date; the building of ‘Gihogwe Secondary School’. When fully completed 1150 students will be able to board here, receiving an education, 3 meals a day and a bed, things that many of these children would never otherwise receive.
Rwanda restored is totally dependent on donations from individuals and companies. Thus, the building work for our secondary school is fully dependant on generous donations.
The next phase of building work at the secondary school, is for another combined classroom and dormitory block with toilet and shower facilities, at a cost of £380,000. This will then accommodate a further 350 students, taking us one step closer to our target providing refuge for 1150.
If you could spare even just a few pounds in aid
of this cause, in order that ‘Rwanda Restored’ could increase its brilliant
work, and begin to change the lives of these children, we, and children in Rwanda,
would be extremely grateful.
Thank you
very much, Love Jo and Nay xx
