Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

On the 5th of October 2008, I will again be donning my swiming cap/helmet/trainers, to complete the Bedford Sprint Triathlon,  and would really appreciate your help and support.  I am doing it for KGH in memory of Kara White, the below is from her husband:

"My young wife, Kara White, spent much of her final months having Chemotherapy and related treatments at Lilford Ward in Kettering General Hospital. This is a specialist unit caring and treating those, like Kara, with Leukaemia, and also Lymphomas and other blood disorders.

Kara was a loving and caring young mum to our three boys, and the best wife anyone could wish for, always supporting, encouraging and caring for me. Quite simply, she was my best friend.

Kara's treatment was going really well and the Chemotherapy had managed to stop the Leukaemia in its tracks, however, the treatment also causes suppression of the whole immune system within the body, and an infection caught while Kara's defence system was inoperative proved to be one fight too many.

Lilford Ward currently have two air filtered and air conditioned rooms, meaning that only the two people at a time most at risk from infection can be placed in these potentially life saving areas, and that patients are constantly moved dependent on their daily blood results

Kara saw this as a problem for the wonderful caring team at the ward and vowed that when she had recovered she would raise funds to enable purchase and install of more equipment so that the five individual rooms can be air filtered and air conditioned. Sadly Kara was unable to see this through, but her family and friends have picked up the gauntlet and are raising funds for this still to happen"

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Kettering General Hospital Charity Fund gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Thank you for your support.
