Story
I’m pleased to confirm we completed our walk across Morecambe Bay on Saturday.
Thank you for your support and generous donations to Cumbria Wildlife Trust.
Emile and I caught the train – no amount of coaxing would work on Nellie (the dog), she just wasn’t going to hop on. After picking her up, she settled down and was a perfect passenger – no coaxing was needed to encourage her to get off!
The train was really busy – apparently it was a very busy Saturday for various events – Steam Gathering at Flookburgh and Steam Festival at Carnforth and Air show at Windermere and of course, the walk across the Bay.
When we set off, the sky was overcast although it was still warm – just the right weather to make for a very pleasant walk. I was quite amazed with the number of people that turnout – there must have been in excess of 200 people. People travelled for a distance to join in on the Walk – Manchester and Cheshire and they do the walk on a regular/annual basis.
We didn’t come across any sinking sands – the wettest bit was the cross the channel where the Kent flows out to sea, the current was surprisingly fast. Even with my little legs, the water come up passed my knees – and covered Emile’s shins. Nellie had some wadding to do and go soaked, but didn’t bat an eyelid!
Half way through the walk, the cloud disappeared and it really felt like we were walking across some southern European beaches – it was lovely.
Definitely something we would recommend you have a go at sometime, if you get the opportunity.
Thanks again.
