Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Why I want to raise money for the Stroke Association.... My father, Sid White suffered a severe stroke in September last year, and died on 10th January 2008. Prior to the stroke he had been fighting cancer for which he was receiving treatment, however his illness did not deter him from enjoying life to the full and he continued sailing his beloved 38’ yacht and enjoyed many other activities both on and off the water. All at the age of 79. Following this tragic event I wanted to do something positive, and decided to apply for the Marathon (something I would never previously considered!). I have been awarded a place to run in aid of the Stroke Association, and as places were over-subscribed by 12-1, feel privileged to be running on behalf of this charity. Every year, an estimated 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke. Most people affected are over 65 but anyone can have a stroke, including children and babies. A stroke is the third most common cause of death in the UK. It is also a leading cause of severe adult disability. More than 250,000 people live with disabilities caused by stroke. Anyone who was lucky enough to have known my father would know that his never-ending encouragement and enthusiasm for life would be with me supporting every step, and no doubt would be at the finishing line with a bottle of bubbly to celebrate! I would be delighted and most grateful to receive any amount of sponsorship or donation. Thank you for your anticipated support. Best wishes Jo PS: The photo above was taken during my parent's Golden Wedding Anniversary party nearly 7 years ago. UPDATE 18/04/2008 My completed official time was 5 Hours, 50 Minutes and 41 Seconds! However, this did include 2 x 20 Mins and 1 x 10 Minutes of queueing for the loos en-route!!!! Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Stroke Association will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
