The Hospice aims to bring peace, comfort and dignity to patients and families facing the crisis of serious illness. We offer assessment and skilled clinical care, respite breaks, home support, day care and bereavement support. Care is free of charge and a flexible and individual approach is made.

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

MARY WATTS WAS MY MUM, SHE DIED OF CANCER IN OCTOBER 2007.  I DONT MEAN TO BOAST BUT SHE WAS THE BEST MUM ANYONE COULD WISH FOR, SHE BROUGHT UP MY LITTLE BROTHER AND I LARGELY ON HER OWN AND STLL SURVIVED WITH A SENSE OF HUMOUR (WE WERE HORRID CHILDREN!). SHE WAS GREATLY LOVED BY ALOT OF PEOPLE AND THOSE THAT KNEW HER NOW HAVE A VERY BIG MARY SHAPED HOLE IN THEIR LIVES.

MUM FOUND OUT SHE HAD CANCER AND THAT IT WAS TERMINAL EARLY ON IN 2007, SHE FACED IT AND SUFFERED THE TREATMENTS, PILLS AND POTIONS KNOWING THAT IT WAS ONLY BUYING HER ALITTLE MORE TIME TO BE WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY. SHE DIDNT COMPLAIN, THERE WERE TEARS WHEN SHE LOST HER HAIR, BUT YOU WOULDNT HAVE KNOWN IT.

SHE SPENT  SOME TIME IN HEMEL HOSPITAL (IMAGINE A HOSPITAL IN A WAR TORN THIRD WORLD COUNTRY AND YOU ARENT FAR OFF THE MARK) STILL SMILING FOR THE MANY VISITORS. THEN IN OCTOBER WE GOT LUCKY AND SHE GOT A BED IN ST FRANCIS HOSPICE.... IT WAS HEAVEN, THE ROOM, THE STAFF, EVERYTHING WAS BETTER THAN EVEN HER FAMILY COULD HAVE DONE FOR HER. AT LAST SHE WAS TREATED AS A GROWN WOMAN AND A HUMAN BEING (I THINK THEY CALL T DIGNITY). BY NOW SHE COULDNT EAT ANYTHING SOLID SO EVERY MEAL WAS A FRESHLY MADE SMOOTHIE, SHE HAD VERY DEFFINATE IDEAS ABOUT WHAT SHE COULD AND COULDNT HAVE IN THOSE! NO ONE DARED MENTION BANANAS! VOLUNTEERS DIDNT GRUMBLE OR GLARE WHEN SHE RETURNED A SMOOTHIE THAT SHE COULDNT DRINK, THEY JUST RETURNED MOMENTS LATER WITH A BETTER ONE THAT SHE COULD.

WE STILL CANT BELIEVE OUR LUCK THAT MUM SPENT HER LAST DAYS SURROUNDED BY PEOPLE THAT REALLY DID CARE ABOUT HOW SHE WAS AND THAT SHE WASNT IN ANY PAIN, DESPITE BEING STRANGERS TO HER A WEEK BEFORE. I FOR ONE FEEL THAT I OWE THEM A GREAT DEBT. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME REPAY IT.
