On Monday 21st September (One World Peace Day) I completed a swimathon to raise money for the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace, who I work for.
I swam 2 miles (3,219m or 129 lengths of a 25m pool), and it wasn't an easy challenge for me (there are witnesses and photos to prove it!) Take a look at my photos and short video on here, with me collapsing at the end of it ha ha!
Update 21.09.09: Well, here I am, absolutely amazed that I finally did it!!!!!! I swam the 2 miles in 1 hour 33 mins and 3 seconds, which was way quicker than anyone anticipated, especially me! It was really hard work, especially the last half mile but with your support and encouragement (and a few cheers from the Foundation for Peace crowd) I managed the whole 129 lengths! I want to say a personal thank you to Carol Nuttall who swam the first mile with me too, helping to keep me motivated. A massive THANK YOU has to go out to all of you who've sponsored me, helping me to raise a phenomenal amount of money, beating target after target (£200, £500, £750, £1000, £1250, £1350) and there's still more coming in! When I started this, I honestly never expected to raise this much, and am quite humbled by your generosity, especially when times are hard for everyone.
All of us at the Foundation really appreciate your donations, it's very difficult to raise money in a recession and your donations will really make a big impact for our work to continue.
Of course, this page remains open for a few months, so you can still help if you haven't had chance yet, and don't forget to gift aid it! Just click on the 'Donate Now' button and follow the instructions. Thanks very much
Jo
