My story

“I love Paris in the springtime”, Fitzgerald, Sinatra et al once sang. Without a shadow of a doubt they were making this claim based on the infamous Sunday morning in mid-April when come rain or shine, 40,000-odd crazy people from across the planet line up ready to complete a jolly 26 mile running tour of the beautiful French capital. Add a mix of blisters, pain, and sheer exhaustion into the mix and you’ve got a morning in paradise! And what better way to do it than in the company of a good old friend...

Of course, one morning of hard work in one of the world’s most picturesque cities is the smallest upon smallest price to pay for the wonderful support we hope to gain for the St Mark’s Hospital Foundation.  The foundation is the world’s first specialist bowel disease hospital and as such caters for patients far beyond its Harrow roots – the hospital treated more than 340,000 outpatients last year alone.

Bowel diseases are deadly serious.  They have the most profound impact on its sufferers and in short, completely change people’s lives. Unfortunately many of these diseases, while treatable through extensive medication, are only really curable through complicated surgery. We’re running this marathon out of love, support and solidarity for someone close to us who’s set to undergo such surgery at St Mark’s.

The St. Mark’s Hospital Foundation funds what the NHS can’t – vital training, education and research at the world’s premier bowel specialist hospital. With the right research, they believe that all categories of bowel illnesses could be eliminated in the future. With your support, and kind donations, we hope to play a part in helping the foundation achieve its aims.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Thank you in advance for your support, words of encouragement and kind donations – please do give anything you can spare as (cliché as it sounds) every penny makes a difference.

Joel & Keith

A massive thank you for your fantastic support! Your donations are being used to fund a research project into the causes of Pouchitis - encountered where patients who use ileal pouches suffer unexplained inflammation of their new systems. Thanks for your continued support!
