Story
**18th April 2005 - Today I am having serious trouble walking and stairs are the enemy! But yesterday was just the most fantastic day, although a lot of it went by in an assorted blur of cheering, music and pain! I managed to get round in 3:52, with the finishing line being the most beautiful vision I've ever laid eyes on, despite being yellow and green! Thank you to everyone for their support and encouragement, both yesterday and in the months leading up to the run. It's been really inspiring and as you can see, the money raised so far has exceeded target. Thanks to eveyone and here's to the next one, and yes, despite saying never again 24hrs ago, there will be a next one, whenever and wherever that may be! Jo x **
Why I'm running...well, I've wanted to run the London Marathon since I was about 8yrs old but I've had to wait as you need to be 18 to enter...and now I'm finally old enough!....ok, back to reality! So 18 passed and I've entered a few times over the years through the ballot but never made it that way, but this Christmas I really felt that it has to be this year, no excuses, and so got myself a charity place.
Who I'm running for...I've decided to run for the British Red Cross. The Tsunami disaster has made it very clear to everyone just how essential such organisations are in times of global emergencies: the Red Cross has a mandate of responding to those in need within 2 hours. Having previously spent time in some of the beautiful places devastated by the wave, I really want to do my bit for the Red Cross by raising money which will assist them in their ongoing efforts out there, but also which will assist them in their preparation for unforeseen disasters that they will respond to in the future. And I'm hoping you'll be able to help me in this by sponsoring me for my 26.2 mile run in April...ANY amount is greatly appreciated: just £2.50 buys a blanket for those sleeping in exposed conditions, £5 buys 100 litres of purified water, £10 helps to find a loved one through the Red Cross Tracing Service.
How this site works...Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: British Red Cross will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me if you can! And thank you so much for your support.
