Thanks for visiting my fundraising page, Central Herts YMCA where I work is going to visit Mombassa YMCA as part of our ongoing exchange with Kenyan YMCA's.  Jo, Julia and Kim are completing a 40 mile sponsored swim, which is the distance between the Coastal YMCA's of Mombassa and Kilifi (last time's project).  We are doing the swimming virtually in local swiming pools over the next few weeks, we have swam 34 miles so far.

The aim of the trip is to renovate a guest house owned by Mombassa YMCA so that it can rent it out to visitors, the income generated from this project will then go into supporting the work of the YMCA locally which provides a range of vocational training in a variety of trades, i.e. buliding work, dressmaking, basic computing etc so that young people can learn a trade, find employment and work towards becoming self sufficient.  Often these young people come from families affected by AIDS, 10% of children in Kenya receive no formal education and only 17% go onto to secondary school. 

Mombassa YMCA is going through a difficult period, the buildings are run down and the top floor can't be used at all due to water leaks, the entire building needs rewiring and decorating.
