At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Thank you to everyone who donated. Don't forget this page stays open for three months, so feel free to give a little more, or give your friends a nudge :P

Hi there,

Thank you for visiting our page, which is here to help us raise money for The Alzheimer's Society. If you have a few minutes to visit their page too, there are lots of resources, factsheets and stories which will explain about dementia and the ways it impacts people's lives much better than we could. You can find them at http://www.alzheimers.org.uk

If you want some of the facts fast though, here they are:

- Symptoms of dementia include memory loss, mood changes and a decline in the ability to talk, read and write.

- Dementia doesn't just touch the lives of older people. Many people who suffer from dementia still have dependent children and jobs.

- Around 700,000 people currently suffer from dementia. At least 15,000 of these are younger people.

- Dementia can be a symptom of another disease, such as Parkinson's disease, Down's syndrome or HIV.

- Your money will go towards the three practical and research aims of The Alzheimer's Society : Cause, Cure and Care.

To help this super awesome cause, my friend Forgetful Fred the elephant and I are going to be running. Lots.
And we would be really grateful if you would sponsor us. It doesn't matter how much; we love you all so much just for visiting this page :)

Now, we really aren't made to run. I love doughnuts far too much and am wobbly in too many places, and Fred, being an elephant with a weakness for peanutbutter sandwiches, finds it even tougher (in fact, I may have to give him a ride in my backpack for most of the races and training) So please, do think about giving. It will mean so much to so many people; not just us, but also people who suffer from dementia, and their families and carers too.

Race dates currently look like this:

Darlington 10k - 9th August 2009

Robin Hood Running Fesitval Half Marathon - 13th September 2009

Please check back regularly as there will be more added whenever possible, and we will keep adding photos of training and races whenever we can. (And when the internets let us.)

We might also call round your house or church or local pub with cakes or biscuits or our beautiful smiles and ask you for a few pennies in return.

We will keep bugging you, because we love The Alzheimer's Society :P
