Wow! We finished!
5 days, 5 hours and 45 seconds from the starting cannon at Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes, we crossed the finishing line 605 miles later in Plymouth, coming 51st from a fleet of 80 in IRC2.
10 months’ training and preparation: Competent Crew; Day Skipper Theory; Day Skipper Practical; Race-training weekend; 2-day ISAF sea-survival course; 3 Qualifying Races – The Myth of Malham; Cowes-Dinard-St Malo and The RORC Channel Race. Finally, the Rolex Fastnet Race. And over 2000 miles logged!
Was the hard work worth it?
Absolutely it was worth it! Look at how much, with your generosity, I've been able to raise! My sincere thanks go to everyone who has been so generous in sponsorship and kind wishes: It has been an experience I’ll never forget!
Did I enjoy it?
Yes: Learning new skills; Teamwork; Making new friends; Sense of achievement – both personally and fund raising for the CTRT.
No: Some of the longer passages are just boring; My personal lack of sailing experience; Stinking like a tramp!
Would I do it again? Possibly
