My name is John Appleby, I am trying to raise money for my good pal Derrick Iddon, who unfortunately is suffering from Motor Neurone Disease, also for M.N.D.A., who do a fantastic job caring for people with this horrible illness. 

Derrick, who is only in his early 40s, nearly died last xmas only his strength, courage and his will to live for his family's sake, pulled him through, his breathing however is still below 50%.

My aim is to try to help M.N.D.A.  and the family succeed in their wish to convert the conservatoty into a flat living area, with shower/toilet facilities etc for him, because he is almost totally immobile and dependent on his family/wheel-chair to move around. Currently his toilet is two steps up, and he can't do this without the help of his family!!

He has a son, Ryan, in his late teens and a daughter Megan, who at 14 is the same age as my daughter. It has been hard physically and emotionally for them both to cope; Ryan has suspended his wish for now, to pursue his career in computer science at uni, and is working in the local call centre, Megan, seeing her dad deteriorating physically, finds it hard to cope.

However, speaking to Marian Dent, head of M.N.D.A. in Newcastle, Derrick is always smiling and joking with her, as he does with me, however long he has left he will always smile for his kids.

Please try to help me help him live his life in some comfort, and raise awarness of this ravaging disease, and the good work M.N.D.A. do to assist people, as well as M.N.D.A. throughout the whole land.
